Prior to setting up talentnow, I spent nearly fifteen years as Managing Director of a high profile and respected group of recruitment companies, Executive Taskforce, which had a strong market presence. I sold the company in 2006 and under this new ownership, the company went into liquidation in 2009.
I spent many years with recruitment organisations in Australia and New Zealand, a total of more than 30 years industry experience. In the mid-1980's, I saw a gap in the market and pioneered the concept of professional contracting (then called executive leasing) in New Zealand and led a strong market change to adopt a new way of staffing organisations with flexible resource.
I think "outside of the square" - it is one of today's requirements to be successful - and through this type of thinking, introduced new services such as recruitment on a time and materials basis and other innovations that have now become mainstream in the recruitment sector. I utilised radio as a medium to promote my previous company very successfully. People still remember years later some of the stories and the message.
In an industry usually plagued by high turnover, I was able to establish relationships that endure today - John for one. I also recognised that there are two "customers" - clients and candidates - and introduced general registration of candidates well in advance of what is now standard industry practice.
I established talentnow! in recognition of the increasing skill shortage in New Zealand's fast growth regional areas (and because I couldn't operate in Auckland post sale), with the view of developing it into a fully fledged national recruitment business with North and South Island representation. We have achieved this and introduced a new philosophy to recruitment - fair value supported by highly experienced and "aligned thinking" Associates.

I am an Interim and Executive Recruitment specialist of long standing in NZ with 24 years professional consulting experience. This tenure adds value to the recruitment of roles at the management and executive level (permanent) and for programmes, projects or caretaker resources (interim executives, independent professional contractors and consulting services), across the broad business functional areas.
In the early-1990s, Kevin Chappell recruited me to the fledging team at Executive Taskforce - my first foray into recruitment - so I was taught by the best! Since then I have earned an excellent service delivery and relationship management reputation in NZ. Initially with Executive Taskforce Ltd as a Senior Consultant - Executive Leasing, then Co-Founder, owner and shareholder of a successful interim and executive recruitment agency. After an agreed buyout with this firm, I was headhunted by Madison Recruitment in August 2009 and established the very successful contracting division Interim Taskforce, which, as part of a publicly listed group, was renamed in 2015.
Having a desire for a seachange, I moved to Blenheim in June 2017, but still passionately wanted to continue my work in the NZ recruitment market. On a commuting basis and to strike that work-life balance - with so many strong business relationships - I wanted to support my clients as I have done for so many years. With technology, regular commuting flights, Skype and great phone coverage, regardless of where my office is based, I can provide accurate, appropriate and timely service delivery - the bedrock of my reputation. I have worked within market leading recruitment agencies, notably with Kevin Chappell at Executive Taskforce for nearly 12 years and several years with Amanda Scott at Interim Taskforce, part of the Madison Group. I specialise in recruiting middle-to-senior level management roles including contract, interim management and permanent engagements across all functional areas for both private and public sector clients. With a best practice and agile approach to the recruitment process, I am service delivery focused and relationship driven, with many long standing connections in the talent community.
Recruitment is my second career but one that became a logical fit. Previously I worked in internal audit for private corporate organisations undertaking operational audits for diverse business units (finance, retail, travel, residential construction, livestock, wool, grain and seed, export etc.) nationwide.
