We are seeking an experienced Strategic Vehicle Asset Fleet Manager to step into a short-term contract and provide immediate guidance across a large, complex vehicle fleet within a critical national service environment.
This is a hands-on, senior role focused on strategy, lifecycle planning, compliance and optimisation of a diverse vehicle portfolio that supports frontline and operational services across New Zealand.
The Role:
You will be responsible for stabilising and advancing vehicle asset management maturity, including:
- Developing and/or refining a Vehicle Asset Management Plan (VAMP)
- Providing strategic oversight of fleet lifecycle, capital planning, procurement and disposal
- Ensuring compliance with public sector asset management, safety and regulatory standards
- Reviewing fleet utilisation, risk, condition and cost efficiency
- Advising senior stakeholders on fleet optimisation, sustainability and investment decisions
- Supporting the transition toward low-emission and electric vehicles where appropriate
- This assignment is outcomes-driven and suited to someone comfortable operating with ambiguity and pace.
About You:
You're a seasoned asset or fleet professional who can quickly assess, influence and deliver. It is essential you bring:
- Proven experience in strategic asset or fleet management (public sector or complex environments preferred)
- Strong understanding of asset lifecycle planning, risk and financial modelling
- Experience working with asset management systems
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and advisory skills
- The ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
Ideally, you will also have:
- A qualification in engineering, business, asset management or similar
- Exposure to sustainability initiatives (EV transition, emissions reduction)
- Confidence navigating governance, audit and compliance requirements
